Fort Pierce

We arrived in Fort Pierce on Monday, March 28, after an uneventful cruise from Palm Beach Gardens. On the way we reached the 5,000 mile milestone since we started our travels! We also made a complete mini-loop around the southern half of Florida.

It is nice to be settled in one place for a couple weeks. We are in Fort Pierce to attend the Marine Trawlers Owners Association (MTOA) Southern Rendezvous. The purpose of MTOA is "To promote camaraderie, education and safety among trawler enthusiasts." 

The municipal marina here was completely re-built after back to back hurricanes in 2004. It is huge and the facilities are beautiful.

Festivities are plentiful this weekend. This evening we will be going to Friday Fest- music, food, art and crafts right here at the water front. Tomorrow it’s the annual Oyster Festival. We were here for the oysters last year and loved it!

MTOA boats have been arriving daily- today about 20 more boats docked. We have a great group of friends to hang out with for the next week. The rendezvous events begin with a potluck Sunday evening. On Monday through Thursday there will be seminars, meals, tours, and fun. MTOA boats are generally slow-moving like us, which explains the turtle mascot. We see the world at 8 mph!
