Mobile

Day 72
Miles today:52.       Total miles: 2,068
Hours today:  5.8
Locks today: 0.    Total locks: 34

We pulled up our anchor at 0615 and headed on down to Mobile. What a difference a few hours made! We passed a huge power plant- a far cry from the tree-lined banks of the Tombigbee we watched for the last 7 days.

Instead of dodging tows on narrow hairpin bends, we saw dozens of huge cargo ships. Our chart plotter shows each ship as a red triangle.

These Navy vessels are scary looking!

We made it through the Mobile River into the much wider Bay. We got our 200 gallons of diesel fuel and pump out just before the rain shower arrived.

We will be spending several days at Dog River Marina here- a much needed change of pace. We are tied up next to 2 boats from Iowa. We are so excited to have fresh Gulf seafood available-- we walked across the road to the Mobile Yacht Club and had fresh grouper for dinner this evening-- yummy!
