We have been in Daytona Beach since April 10 to participate
in this gathering of boaters- specifically, trawlers. There are 59 trawlers
here, with many more people attending by car. The Rendezvous is both social and
educational. We have been members of MTOA for 4 years, but as first time
rendezvous attendees we were assigned mentors- Tom and Sally on Coastal Lady.

We hosted lunch aboard for a couple traveling by car. Our
guests were Paul and Jo-Anne, whose boat is at home in Virginia. Mark served on the docking committee, while I was assigned to photography, and we both worked on the breakfast team.

We have covered informative topics ranging from beading an
eyeglass lanyard to boat insurance to engine room trouble shooting. We took
advantage of many of these sessions.
There were also entertainment venues- a biker bash, a minor league
baseball game, flea market, and an awards dinner.
Great music from the 50's, 60's, and 70's |

We signed up to receive a 30 minute inspection designed to
diagnosis a known or suspected mechanical or electrical issue. The 30 minutes
turned into nearly 2 hours as 2 guys thoroughly checked into our concerns. As a result, they will be installing a missing
ground wire and a galvanic isolator. We continue to try to trace a tiny drip of
diesel and after a day or two of cruising we should know if this is a problem.
On a boat it is always something- but I guess that’s also true on land.
Did I mention that I won a door prize at the engine room seminar? Yep. A canvas cleaning kit.
Don't I look excited?! |
I won something else yesterday- my photo of Santa arriving in Apalachicola by shrimp boat won second prize in the AGLCA photo contest. Thanks to all who voted for it! My prize is a free one-year membership in AGLCA. I told Mark my new camera is starting to pay for itself already. LOL!
